Summer series 2024: Iconic Residential Houses
21 August 2024
Currently enjoying your summer, but looking for something interesting to read? In this six-part summer series, we take you into the fascinating world of architecture by our firm’s predecessors. We explore unique residential houses in the 20th century New Construction style, as well as more recent works, each telling a wonderful story.
From the nearly hundred-year-old Van der Leeuw residence to the Van Buchem residence, each house highlights a piece of architectural innovation and timeless beauty. We dove into our archives and found original black and white photographs and project drawings.
Some highlights from the series:
- Van Buchem residence (1961): Designed by Jaap Bakema and located in Hillegersberg. This masterpiece of modernist architecture has retained its original charm while being adapted to modern needs.
- Ypenhof Residence (1948): This national monument, near the Kralingse Plas in Rotterdam and designed by Jo van den Broek, stands out for its impressive sliding glass doors and innovative use of materials.
- Residence Van der Leeuw (1927): An architectural jewel in Kralingen, Rotterdam, designed by Van der Vlugt. This house is a wonderful example of the Nieuwe Bouwen with a modern approach to interior design.
This series not only offers a look at the impressive designs of the last century, but also shows how these historic properties have been adapted to contemporary requirements.
