ABN AMRO home base takes form
18 December 2024
Did you know that the iconic ABN AMRO office on Foppingadreef will soon be one of the most sustainable offices in the Netherlands? The transformation is in full progress, and the building is beginning to take shape.
With pinpoint Swiss precision, the first wooden floors have been laid, an important milestone in this redevelopment. The eventual 30,000 m² of new wooden office floors will soon form the beating heart of a future-proof and circular design that radiates warmth and innovation.
But much more is happening. The concrete frame of the existing building will not be demolished, but rather retained and carefully renovated. This existing structure will be given a visible and prominent place in the design in the stair and elevator cores and in the ceilings, telling the story of the past. At the same time, we are going to top up the existing office floors where the exterior facade will be executed as a lightweight, bio-based remake facade.
Inside the building, steps have also been taken to create a pleasant and innovative working environment. Old climate ceilings are being reused as acoustic interior walls in various atriums and not only provide optimal acoustics, but also contribute to a pleasant and comfortable indoor climate.
Looking ahead to 2025: light, green and interaction
Imagine a building where the boundaries between inside and outside are faded, with bright, green atriums that invite meeting and inspiration. In 2025, the wooden atriums and constructions will be installed along with the new office floors. An impressive culmination of the transformation. These spaces form a natural transition and is a place where employees can meet in an environment that feels like an oasis in the city.
With the impressive art collection in the new headquarters, the exhibition space provides a place where ABN AMRO’s community comes together. This space connects art, people and ideas and enhances the sense of community within the building – an environment that fosters creativity and encounters.
We are immensely proud of the progress of this transformation and the collaboration with EDGE, ABN AMRO and BAM. Together we are working to create a leading-edge building that is a sustainable home for 11,000 employees.
